Crocheting With Thread

Hello Everyone, I love to crochet with thread and you can make such dainty and lacy things with thread. They do have different size of thread that you can use to crochet with. What is amazing is that the smaller the number of the thread the bigger the strand of thread it is. You would think it would be the other way around for example a size 20 thread is thinner than a size 3 fashion thread. I use the classic size 10 the most when I work with thread.

I have come to find out that thread is versatile. You can make so many things with the thread. You can make anything from clothing to jewelry and even art.

Below are some of the items that I have created with thread.

Let me know if you have created anything with thread and if you any favorite patterns.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a Fabulous Evening!

Crochet For Camping

Hello Everyone, I am excited because with Spring the camping season will be here soon. Yes I love to go camping. I do need to get busy and find room for more items like towels, silverware and etc. I then started to research on crochet patterns for a camper. Below you will find some of those patterns.

I loved the looks of this organizer for the bathroom. I need all the help I can get in that small space. You can find this pattern here https://www.thriftydiydiva.com/diy-crochet-bathroom-door-organizer/

This colorful set caught my eye. Bright colors just say summer to me. https://www.topcrochetpatterns.com/crochet-patterns/camping-set

I was thinking these would make a great kitchen item for the camper. https://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/hanging-baskets-on-dowel

We all know that it can get cooler in the evening and this blanket would make a great thing to curl up with by the campfire. https://therustedpansy.wordpress.com/2017/09/13/wip-091317

This is just too cute not to mention! If you are not into doing the real thing this would be one way to go camping without being outdoors. https://www.amazon.com/Lets-Go-Camping-Crochet-Adventure

I am so looking forward to the feeling I get from getting away and camping. Let me know if you like to go camping and if you have any ideas or any patterns that I have not seen.

Thank you so much for stopping and taking a look!

Crochet Fashion Through The Years

I love going through old photos and seeing what the fashion was back in the day. This had me thinking about how fashion has changed in the years of crochet. I know it got it’s start by the making of lace, doilies and such. I then wanted to delve into the decades to see what the styles were and how they evolved through the years.

It has always fascinated me on how fashion trends have a way of coming back around. I thought it would be fun to take a trip back in time to see what those fashions were. I hope you have enjoyed taking that trip back in time with me.

As always thank you so much for taking a look and stopping by.

Quilt Afghan With A Half and Half Color Granny Square Pattern

Hello Everyone,

I just love what all you can do with making Granny Squares. This afghan is made with half and half color granny square. The designs that you can make by sewing the squares together are amazing. You can be inspired by sewn quilts like I have or make up your own. As you can see this covers the top of my queen size bed.

Materials you will need: A Crochet Hook I/9 5.5 mm, I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn approx. 4 skeins of the variegated (5 oz) and 3 skeins of the solid (7 oz). A yarn needle for sewing in the ends and sewing the blocks together.

The squares are 12 inches, you will make 30 squares and 9 rounds per square. These squares are worked like a regular granny square but you will be turning and changing colors

Stitches Used: Slip St (sl st), chain (ch), Double Crochet (dc) Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Gauge: 10 dc = 3 in wide, 2 rows = 1.5 in

With the solid color ch 4, sl to together to form a ring

Rnd 1 Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout) dc 2 times into the ring, ch 2, dc 3 times into ring, change to variegated yarn and ch 2, (leave tail of solid color behind to use later) 3 dc into ring, ch 2, 3 dc, hdc into top of ch 3

Rnd 2 Turn ch 3, in hdc space 2 dc, ch 1 and in corner 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1 and in next corner 3 dc, change color by picking up the solid and ch 2, 3 dc in same space, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next corner, hdc in top of ch 3

Rnd 3 Turn ch 3, 2 dc in hdc space, ch 1, in next ch 1 space 3 dc, ch 1, in corner 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, in corner 3 dc pick up the variegated color, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, continue around till the beginning and hdc into top of ch 3

Rnd 4 – 9 Keep repeating rnd 3 and in each ch 1 space you will be doing 3 dc, When you get to the end of rnd 9 instead of doing the hdc ch 2 and sl st into the top of ch 3 and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Once you get all 30 squares done you will need to sew them together according to the graph in any way you want to. I used a yarn needle and ran the yarn through both back loops.

You can always contact me if you have any problems with the pattern. I will be happy to help if you have any questions along the way.

This pattern is copyright Dunmire Crochet Corner ©2019 so Please do not copy, share, adjust or resell my pattern.

All finished crocheted items made from this pattern may be sold. If you share images of finished product online, you must link back to this page.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope your day is filled with laughter and love.

Men’s Patterns for Crocheting

Hi to you all,

Have you ever noticed that there are not too many patterns to crochet for men? I had found a few sweaters, hats and scarves galore but not quite what I was looking for. One year I had gotten it into my head to make my boys sweaters for Christmas gifts. Okay, they are actually men now but they will always be my boys! 🙂 They liked hoodies and I was in search of a pattern like the image of one that I had in my mind. There was not a pattern to be found that looked like a hoodie at that point and time. I then came up with the idea to make up one of my own. How hard could it be right!! I have been crocheting since I was 11 yrs old so I figured I would be able to tackle such a job. Well, let me tell you that there was a lot of trial and error in the making of those sweaters. Blood sweat and tears as they say. 🙂 I was able to come up with 3 different patterns and in different sizes. Here is what I had come up with.

After I had finished the sweaters and gave them to the boys I started to think what about selling the sweaters and have them be custom orders. I had already done some research by trying to find patterns and had come up empty on that front. It had also crossed my mind to write out a pattern for a sweater. I then thought I am going to have to write this out so people could understand it and not just in my chicken scratch! (which is my version of crochet shorthand) I would also have to figure out several different sizes. It has taken me a few years to accomplish this feat but one is now available to purchase in my Etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Dunmirecrochetcorner

Introducing Molly and her friends.

Since moving to Iowa I have been busy making some Amigurumi animals. They also include some blankets and monsters. You can see a video of them here on my YouTube Channel.  Molly and her new friends

Molly is an elephant that I made specifically for me because the pattern was just too cute. I also decided to name her Molly.  🙂

Have a Great Evening,                                                                                                                                       Laura 🙂

Love Of Making Items For Grandchildren

Since I have become a Grandma I have loved to make things for those precious babies. I also love the fact that when they are babies it does not take me very long to create and finish those items.  I will often end up searching the internet for patterns and ideas. This of course can take up some time because I will get engrossed in the process. If I do not monitor the time I spend on this I can spend hours upon hours on the computer.  🙂

Here is a costume that I created for my Grand Daughter when she was a baby. She was Miss Peanut Guy.

At the moment we have 12 grandchildren and trying to keep up with all of them gets to be quite interesting.  Lately I have been on a kick of making ponchos and had made one for my Son and Daughter in Law.  My Grand Daughter saw them and of course wanted Grandma to make her one!  Below is a picture of her modeling her poncho for me.

My Grandson also loves to have his picture taken and was a nice model for me with his fedora hat I made him.

I wish I had more time to spend on making things for those that I love! One of these days I hope to find that time 🙂

As always thanks for stopping by,                                                                                               Laura

My New Fascination With Ponchos!

Lately I have been into making Ponchos. I think they can be very versatile! There can be so many uses for them. They can be worn with jeans or date night attire and help keep you warm on a cool day or night.  They can have a Lacey look or be Cabled to have a heavier look.  Below are some of the Ponchos that I have finished and are available at Crochet & Craft items by Dunmirecrochetcorner on Etsy.

This one is fashioned for a more Casual and Modern Poncho with a hood.  The pattern for this poncho I found at Free Crochet Pattern 40493-C Vertical-Stripe Poncho: Woman’s Version : Lion Brand Yarn Company.  This is the basic pattern I ended up putting my own twist to it with buttons on the side and adding a hood.

Both of these were fashioned from the same pattern from 1970 but with different stitches and lengths. You can do so many different things with one pattern if you switch out stitches, colors and experiment with the length etc.  This is where I found this pattern PONCHO 3 COLOR – Groovy Crochet.

I had found quite a few patterns online for Ponchos and here are some of those.  Click on the picture and it will take you right to the pattern. It is amazing the different looks that you can come up with for a Poncho!

I love that the Poncho has so many ways you can incorporate them into your wardrobe.  Have you owned a Poncho and what have you worn it with?  I am in the process of making me some different types of Ponchos for myself.  Would love to hear from you and any ideas you have for wearing a Poncho.

Thanks for stopping by and entering my world of crochet!

Men and Crochet

I have often wondered how many Men do Crochet! I do know that I had a houseful of boys that grew into Men and not one of them Crochet now! When they were young and when I was crocheting they wanted to learn how. I then taught them how to crochet and they actually made friendship bracelets but that was as far as they took the crocheting.  Now they say hey Mom I like this could you make it for me!! 🙂

I have done some research on Men Crocheting and it seems that there a few of them that enjoy this craft.  The Crochet Dude  is known in crochet circles and here is another guy that blogs from my home state WI about crocheting among other things Real Men Crochet and other things.

When searching for patterns for Men I find mainly hats, afghans, scarves, some sweaters and vests. I have 3 boys and was looking for some sweater patterns to make for gifts. In my research I was just not coming across anything that I knew they would wear.  This is why I decided to start designing items for Men.  I have always loved to make things for my family and give them as gifts but there is only so many hats and afghans that they can use!

I love to use Pinterest for inspiration on Men’s Fashion. There are so many ideas that you can use for inspiration and for patterns. I was trying to see how many different things that I could find for Men that have been Crocheted.

These were some of the pictures that I ran across while researching for Crochet for Men.  Both Vests are made from Granny Squares.

DSC08204DSC00970DSC07334DSC05529       These are a few of the items I have created for my boys and grandson. My middle son is pictured wearing the hooded sweater and has helped me quite a bit with items to create. He will see something and he will say “Mom” could you by chance be able to make this? This is where the idea came from for the Fedora style hat and the Tie.
