I love watching Nascar and I am a Fan of Jeff Gordon. My husband has a room full of items of Jeff Gordon so you know he is definitely a fan. I am not sure any more of what year I did this afghan as a surprise for my husband. I was able to surprise him which is not an easy feat to accomplish. I was able to crochet the majority of the afghan while he was around because I of course am always crocheting something for around the house. There is a part of the afghan that I did while he was at work and I had a day off of work. There were times that I took my mother-in-law to a doctors appointment and took it with me to work on. I was able to complete the afghan without him realizing what I was doing. It had also took me longer to accomplish than what I had expected. I wanted to have it completed by Christmas and then I wanted to have it done by his Birthday and that was in January. Needless to say I did not get it done by either of those dates. I was able to give it to him about a month later. He absolutely loved it. I guess the reason I am writing about this is because Jeff Gordon is going to be retiring after this year and we will miss seeing him on the race track!
The back of this afghan is just the checkers. I had found a picture of Jeff in cross stitch and adapted it to the crochet. I made a rectangle in the afghan stitch so I was able to cross stitch his likeness on to the rectangle. The blanket was all made with the checker squares and sewn together. After I finished the rectangle I sewed it to the middle of the afghan.
If you are interested or know someone who is a fan there are some patterns for afghans that I have found.
These afghan graphs are available for purchase here http://www.mckcreations.com/racing.htm
I found this afghan that someone had done in single crochet but no pattern but thought it might help someone with inspiration.
Thanks for stopping by and I am off to watch the Sprint Cup Race!!
Mmmm Mmmm Good Holiday Baking! I went over to my Mother’s house so we could have some quality time together baking 🙂 We made Filled Sugar Cookies and Cinnamon Rolls!
This time of year I always love to do baking for me and my children. It all started out with my Mom and the traditions that I carried over to my family. When I was young we would bake Sugar Cookies and Cinnamon Rolls with my Mom.
Our Family Tradition was to have the Cinnamon Rolls Christmas morning while opening up gifts! When I had been baking for the day the children would come in and smell the deliciousness and want to dive right in after school and gobble them all up. Of course I made them wait until after they had supper!!!
The finished Filled Sugar Cookies
My son’s to this day still want me to send them the Cinnamon Rolls for Christmas along with some Peanut Butter Fudge. 🙂 They now have to settle for having the Cinnamon Rolls sent to them and not have the aroma that comes from them baking at home. I love to send them some baking love that comes from the heart!
What are some of your traditions for the Holidays? As always Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Have you ever wondered what to do with those CD’s that won’t work anymore or you just do not want? I have made some crochet CD Coasters! I love the way they look and also the way they soak up any extra moisture that comes from the condensation on a glass.
What I do for a CD Coaster is crochet in the round to make a circle. I make 2 of the circles and put the CD in the middle and sew together the outsides and Viola a CD Coaster! A simple way to use those old CD’s.
Here is a picture of a Coaster I have made but had not put a CD in the middle. This is what they would look like on both sides. I would post a picture of one with a CD in the middle but they are well used! 🙂
Here are some more great ideas on what to do with those unwanted CD’s. Here are a few of my favorites!
