Introducing Molly and her friends.

Since moving to Iowa I have been busy making some Amigurumi animals. They also include some blankets and monsters. You can see a video of them here on my YouTube Channel.  Molly and her new friends

Molly is an elephant that I made specifically for me because the pattern was just too cute. I also decided to name her Molly.  🙂

Make It A Crochet Valentines Day!

We all know that Valentines Day will be here soon. Why not add some fun and creative crochet to help celebrate the day! There are so many unique items that you can incorporate into that special day.

I ran across these cute Lips to make as an application or what ever your heart desires. Click here for the pattern {walker whimsy}: Crochet Kissy Lips {14 Days of Fluffy Stuff}.

Another way to add some fun to your wardrobe is to make this scarf! This could be made in pastel colors as shown or make it more vibrant with some red and white or even a touch of black added to it.  You will find the pattern here Conversation Hearts Scarf – Media – Crochet Me.

Have you ever wondered when Valentines Day was first associated with Romantic Love? Well I did so here is some information for you to take with you thanks to Wikipedia.

The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition ofcourtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines“). In Europe, Saint Valentine’s Keys are given to lovers “as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart”, as well as to children, in order to ward off Saint Valentine’s Malady.[6] Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.[7]

All right back to some of those unique crochet items that you can create for Valentines Day!  We go from the neck down to the feet. 🙂 I saw these and wanted to make me a pair of these slippers.

My New Fascination With Ponchos!

Lately I have been into making Ponchos. I think they can be very versatile! There can be so many uses for them. They can be worn with jeans or date night attire and help keep you warm on a cool day or night.  They can have a Lacey look or be Cabled to have a heavier look.  Below are some of the Ponchos that I have finished and are available at Crochet & Craft items by Dunmirecrochetcorner on Etsy.

This one is fashioned for a more Casual and Modern Poncho with a hood.  The pattern for this poncho I found at Free Crochet Pattern 40493-C Vertical-Stripe Poncho: Woman’s Version : Lion Brand Yarn Company.  This is the basic pattern I ended up putting my own twist to it with buttons on the side and adding a hood.

Both of these were fashioned from the same pattern from 1970 but with different stitches and lengths. You can do so many different things with one pattern if you switch out stitches, colors and experiment with the length etc.  This is where I found this pattern PONCHO 3 COLOR – Groovy Crochet.

I had found quite a few patterns online for Ponchos and here are some of those.  Click on the picture and it will take you right to the pattern. It is amazing the different looks that you can come up with for a Poncho!

I love that the Poncho has so many ways you can incorporate them into your wardrobe.  Have you owned a Poncho and what have you worn it with?  I am in the process of making me some different types of Ponchos for myself.  Would love to hear from you and any ideas you have for wearing a Poncho.

Thanks for stopping by and entering my world of crochet!

Crochet Hooded Men’s Sweater Part II

DSC09978

I do believe I left off where I was working on the sleeves of this sweater. After I finished the sleeves I then proceeded to work on the hood!  It had taken me longer to finish all the pieces than I wanted it to.  Sometimes I just wish there were more time in a day! 🙂

Here is the hood to the sweater after I had it sewn together.  After I had the hood finished I started sewing the body of the sweater together.  Once the sides on the body were sewn together I then started to sew on the sleeves.

DSC09971

Here I have one sleeve sewn into the sweater. The sweater is sewn together with the same yarn that it is made from and a yarn needle.

This picture shows the other sleeve being sewn into the body of the sweater.

The sweater is all finished! My husband is the reluctant model who did not want to have his face in the photo so he came up with the idea of putting the paper in front of his face inside the hood! lol I can honestly say that I was laughing the whole time I was taking the pictures!

DSC09983

I have to say at least in this picture he did not have to worry about being seen! I was happy with the way the sweater all came together and with the way it looks!  If you have any questions or just want to tell me what you think of the sweater please feel free to contact me 🙂

This sweater is also listed in my shop at www.etsy.com/shop/Dunmirecrochetcorner  Thanks for stopping by and taking a look!!!
